About

This site was created by Kimberley who can find on Mastodon at @kimberley@ecoevo.social.

It was created to create a repository of wildlife-friendly gardening methods for ideas and inspiration to help those who want to welcome more wildlife in to their gardens to see what is possible. It’s been an idea in the back of my mind for a while, and then I read a paper about barriers to wildlife gardening which interviewed people about why they don’t adopt more wildlife-friendly practices and what would help them to do so. People said that they wanted to see ideas and inspiration in practice, and not necessarily perfect finished gardens but projects in progress (Hoggett et al., 2025). The goal of this project is to show a whole variety of gardens in different styles and regions to help people to see what can be done, and hopefully to show that it does not need to be difficult or expensive.

To help with this, please share your wildlife-friendly garden, no matter how imperfect it may be. We need wildlife gardening to be seen as accessible and so we need to see a whole range, from small urban container gardens to large rural plots. They don’t need to be finished, in fact works in progress are very welcome and we’d love to see how they adapt over time.

If you wish to share your garden, you’ll need to register an account first (just to help stop bots and spam). You’ll need to write some information about your garden, your location (because wildlife and suitable gardening styles depend differ depending on where you are in the world), and photos. You can be as fuzzy as you like with the location as long as it is in your region. It is recommended that you don’t include your exact address for privacy reasons.

If you’re here looking for inspiration you can search via location, garden type, wildlife that you are trying to attract. Obviously it will be more useful as it grows so please share it with your gardening buddies.
